Pool Project

Research and happening, 2022 - Present.

The Pool Project is an ongoing piece where I attempt to swim at every public outdoor swimming pool in the 5 boroughs of New York. Because the materials you can bring onto the pool grounds are so limited, I've been playing with alternative forms of documentation for this project. So far this has looked like detritus collection, plein air painting, historical research, and transcribing my pool deck conversations with patrons and lifeguards. I foresee this project culminating in a book of findings, ephemera, and personal swimming history, as well as a map and pool checklist for folks who want to do their own Pool Project.
